With so many different types of hauling methods, you may catch yourself wondering whether you have made the right decision or not.
Well, to help you attain peace of mind and a solid understanding of the different types of freight hauls, we have put together a go-to guide for making an educated decision for your transportation needs!
Less Than Truckload (LTL)
Without question, LTL is the most popular
type of freight transportation out there. LTL freight shipping simply saves you
money.
LTL Freight shipping is one of the easiest methods to move large and bulky
items safely and efficiently. When your shipment does not require a “full
truckload”, you can save a lot of money by utilizing LTL freight shipping
options.
Partial Truckload
Partial truckload shipping is somewhat of a blend between LTL and FTL shipping methods. LTL shipping is an excellent choice for shipping a pallet, while PTL shipping is the right choice for handling multiple, in most cases- several pallets.
The typical pallet range for PTL shipments is between 6 to 18 pallets. General rule of thumb; if you are shipping under 6 pallets – LTL may be a better option, whereas if you are shipping over 18 – TL may be a better choice.
Truckload (TL)
When you are searching for the perfect method to ship your items or products that require refrigeration, climate control, and other special accommodations – you will realize that Truckload shipping is the best option for you.
While Truckload options are in fact more expensive than other types of transportation options, they typically have significantly less transit times– because they do not require any sort of truck transfer, unload/reload, etc.
Different Types of Truckload (TL) Shipment Options
i. Dry Van
Go to-choice for shipping regular packaged freight with no specific care instructions or special transit requirements.
ii. Refrigerated
Go to-choice when shipping refrigerated, frozen, or items that are temperature-sensitive with climate control requirements.
iii. Flatbed
Typically used to ship larger equipment such as manufacturing or construction equipment.
iv. Step Deck
Step deck options are vital when the load needs to be close to the ground to accommodate special unloading methods such as forklift loading/unloading.
v. Removable Gooseneck
Removable goose neck trailers feature extremely low decks which can be used to haul freight that can be driven onto the trailer.
Air Ride Truckload (Full or Partial)
This method of freight was designed to ensure that delicate, high-risk of damage, and other fragile types of shipments arrive to their destination safely.
Air ride provides a softer ride than a standard freight truck. Due to a lower demand and frequency of use, this method typically yields a more expensive price tag than a standard or partial truckload shipment.
Blanket Wrap or Van Move
If you have a product or item that is unable to be boxed, palletized, or crated – you will want to request a blanket wrap or van move service. This type of transportation method is the perfect solution for items such as sofa’s, recliner’s, and other types of unique furniture. Since planning plays a vital role in blanket wrap or van moves being successful, transit times may be slightly more extensive than standard LTL shipping.
